Well, I’ve it’s been finished for a while, but I just today got to taking the pictures.

Presenting….

Completed Gloves for Service Men, from the American Red Cross! (Proudly modeled by Evelyn, the 1942 Dodge Army Jeep.)

So you’d like to see them on a human being? I aim to please…

Proudly modeled by Brother, who giggled with delight on receiving his (kind of) Father’s Day present. Sometimes older brother’s don’t make the best hand/ knitwear models, but he was a good sport and obliged me with a palm side shot.

They fit him well, and look good, so Brother was pleased and the gloves have been stashed in the footlocker for WWII odds and ends that he collects and brings out to play on occasion. A good time was had by all, both knitter and recipient.

As for the pattern, it’s free, which is always a plus, and very easy to follow, even for a modern knitter. I get a little nervous reading original vintage patterns, since the terminology is different and the directions aren’t always clear, but I had no problems understanding it at all. I used Paton’s Classic Merino Wool in Olive Green on US size 4 double pointed needles and some waste yarn for holding stitches, and that’s pretty much all there is to it. Socks might be next up for Brother’s knitting, but I have to work on Sister In Law’s Bosom Buddy next. She has the yarn and the pattern ready for me, so I think that’s a pretty clear sign that she’d like her wrap now, please.
