I can assure you that though all of the blog silence, I have been knitting.
Every Sunday I’ve gone to my favorite coffee shop (except last weekend when they were closed and I had to go to Starbucks, ewww) with the Hidcote Garden Shawl and knit and made progress and accepted compliments from strangers and admired my lovely handiwork. Then I go home and knit a little more through out the week. And then stretch out the lace to see insanely stupid and glaring errors that are entirely the fault of yours truly and rip back to the lifeline to start over. That’s happened twice. I’ve also discovered another broken stitch, this one so far back that ripping back to it would mean ripping out the entire shawl, so I’ve tied the broken ends together and soldiered on. I have no idea how to fix it, or even if it is able to be fixed. Suffice it to say, this shawl has been draining my soul out through my fingertips and I think it’s time for a change.

Enter the Bayrishe Socks, graciously modeled by the sugar jar.
I’m using the birthday yarn, and having a fantastic time with this one. I’ve read on Ravelry other’s problems that these socks take forever to knit, but I think they’re clipping along quite quickly considering all of the twists. I do love cable patterns, and I want to knit/ design a pair of kilt hose with twisted stitches, so I think these will be a good intro. I’m also cabling without a needle for the first time. It’s way easier than I thought it would be and much more convenient than bringing out the cable needle for every twist on this sock. I’m having a swell time. Here’s some links for cabling without a needle. I’m not the tutorial sort.
Summer has hit Oregon, meaning it’s in the mid-80′s and fans are buzzing in the windows. Good thing it will only last 6 more weeks, then I can go back to wearing tights to work. How are my peeps boiling under the sun in Vegas?
